Why x10?

Those that know me know that I’m a self-professed ‘Deal Guy’ – put more simply, happiest when I’m doing deals. My first real job out of college was the GM of a recently-closed ‘deal’. . . My first sales job was part of a team raising $25 million for a cellphone ‘deal’. My first career position was for a business growing by acquisition and I got to be part of 4 ‘deals’ there.

When I finally made the jump out of corporate at 33 years young I was hell-bent on finding a ‘deal’ – more specifically a business to own and scale*. When I did acquire my first company back in 2009, that dramatically changed my personal and professional life for the better, and more importantly allowed me to get on a path to create wealth.

With all of that history and guidance as learnings, I’m excited today to announce the launch of my newest company, x10 Ventures. Building x10 Ventures allows me to focus all of my passion and energy towards empowering ‘deals’ for those that want to grow – personally and professionally – through business acquisitions. That’s it – the simple – yet passionate – premise on which I’ve built x10.

Rather than ‘copy-cat’ anything out on the market, I’ve designed x10 Ventures to be the first true buyer’s advocate acquisition consultancy; purpose built to support those on the buy-side part of the journey.

x10 Ventures offers comprehensive services to those ready to start their path to business ownership – through their first business purchase, or to expand their possibilities for growth through strategic acquisitions in an existing business. Either scenario presents the perfect opportunity for x10’s team of experienced acquisitions professionals to support that effort and drive a more positive result, with less risk, and with a quicker return on investment.

I’ve been fortunate to have acquired 7 businesses in the last 13 years with priceless learnings from each success and each failure, but what’s most memorable is that each time I either closed a deal – or ran into something unexpected on the deal – I would ask myself, ‘Where would somebody go that’s doing this for the first time?’ Up until now there wasn’t a company dedicated to the buy-side of the deal-flow, and I saw a blue ocean opportunity to build an experienced acquisitions consultancy in x10 Ventures.

Growth through acquisition is the main mission for x10 Ventures, but we also want to participate in bringing these businesses to the finish line via successful exits. Our aim is to work with our clients even before they’ve set their sights on an exit timeline, because we know that proper exit planning starts at day one. Our experienced team works with them to exit-score all aspects of the business, and subsequently develops a 24-month plan to optimize areas all that need improvement; all with the goal to maximize the ultimate exit selling multiple (i.e. price).

At the end of the day, I want to work with people who are tired of making other people rich, and I’ve built x10 Ventures to show others what’s possible in growth – through business acquisitions. I’m extremely excited to channel my passion for ‘deals’ into something that provides a meaningful contribution to their lives.
